What are views for?

Views are a central tool on the platform. By creating a View, you can permanently save your country, topic, crisis, project, or briefing-specific filter settings. You can create as many as you like.

  1. Access to previous filter settings: Use Views to save your filter settings and easily return to exactly the same settings later.

  2. Sharing: Views can be shared with colleagues or a response team. This ensures that everyone relates to the same filtered data, promoting consistency and collaboration across your team, e.g., when discussing or monitoring a specific situation.

  3. Create Alerts: Views are the base filter setting to create your alerts, streamlining your monitoring process even further.

This integration between Views and Alerts ensures that your monitoring is not only consistent but also fully automated and tailored to your specific operational needs.

Views are especially valuable during prolonged crises, where immediate access to a preconfigured set of filters saves time and reduces the risk of missing critical developments. Whether you are tracking a political crisis globally or conducting a security analysis, Views offer a repeatable, flexible, and reliable way to stay aligned with your mission and your team.

Create a view

Apply the filters you want, such as countries, interests, keywords, and event categories. This defines what type of events you want to monitor. (see “Filters”), you can click on View.

Create a View (After Applying Filters)

Once you’ve applied filters (e.g., country, interests, keywords), you can save your configuration by creating a View:

  1. Click the Views button at the top of the map.

  2. Click ➕ Add → Add View.

  3. Fill in the View Name (e.g., Belgium Protests).

  4. Add a Description (e.g., “Tracks protest activity in Brussels and Antwerp with filters for high-impact and verified events.”)

  5. Optionally, adjust countries, interests, travelers, or keywords if needed.

  6. Click Create to save your view.

💡 Tip: Descriptive titles and clear descriptions improve team communication, especially when working across regions or shifts.

Find, edit, share your views

Click the “Views” button on the top right to open the list of all your views. With your number of views growing bigger you can:

  • Search for a view and/or filter for pinned views.

  • Click “Apply” to activate the settings of your view on the map screen.

To edit and update a view, click the three dots behind the view name. Here you can:

  • Set as default: You can define one of your views as your default, starting screen view which is shown every time you return to SEE.

  • Pin your favourite views to filter for pinned views only.

  • Share: Click on share to open the share dialogue. Users which have access already will be listed. Search and select recipients, either by name for individual colleagues or existing tags for defined groups of users (e.g. teams). Click ”Share”. The users with access will be listed subsequently.

  • Edit: Saved views can be edited using “Edit” in the three dots menu anytime your needs change. You can edit the title, description or any other filter settings.

  • Create Alert(s): Saved views serve as a foundation for alerts. You can quickly create alerts ensuring that you’re notified of any new event matching the filter criteria of this view. See the article on “Alerts” for more detail.

Note (Share): 📝 When you share a view which includes interests which previously have not yet been shared with your recipients, another dialogue window will open to confirm whether you want to share access to these interests as well. That's a swift way to ensure consistent access to data. If you do not want to share those other interests, simply adapt/create a view with only those interests that you want to share.

Note (Share): 📝 When sharing with "All" users have in mind that all future users will also receive access to this view.

👥 Consider sharing with specific users or user groups (via tags) instead for better control.

Important Note (Edit): 📝 When you edit a view that is also linked to an alert, any changes you make will automatically update the settings of that alert. Therefore, if you want to experiment with different configurations without affecting the existing alert, we recommend creating a copy of the view first and to then customize the copy.

🔄 Different roles, different benefits:

Views are not one-size-fits-all—they’re tuned to the specific needs of different teams:

  • 🔐 Security analysts can configure Views to monitor threats near critical assets.

  • 🚨 Crisis teams use them for real-time coordination and updates.

  • 🧭 Executives rely on simplified Views for strategic briefings and site-level oversight.

This flexibility ensures that every role gets tailored, actionable information to support smart, timely decisions.
